Dizzy Dame
Hi Gals,Has anyone here had hallucinations before? Over the past few days, I've started seeing shadows move, and other strange things that I can't quite explain. I've been having a hard time with my BP and HR, so I'm wondering if any of you have had similar experiences when your BP is irratic, or you're having arrythmias.I hope it's not a ghost -Lauren
spinalremains
Well, I can tell you that when I have blood pressure or HR changes I do have some mild visual disturbances. But, nothing really of that nature. It might possibly the side effects of a med you have started of have even been taking for awhile. They can show up at anytime. I almost lost my vision the other day due to low BP. It was scary enough.
Rachel
Hi Lauren,I wouldn't call what I see hallucinations, but I do have visual disturbances sometimes. It looks like a shadow in my peripheral vision. It goes away in a few seconds. I've never paid attention to what my bp or heart rate is doing at the time, though. I guess I should do that!Hope you can figure out what's going on.Rachel
taylortotmom
I have funky "visions" too. I attribute mine to migraine auras which for me are almost always the result of irregular heartrate. Carmen

stampingamy
ME TOO! It is one of the symptoms I had that got my PCP to refer me to a specialist. He was concerned about MS, thankfully it wasn't that. But I would think I would see a bug in my peripheral vision and turn it would be a shadow or a piece of lint. I had a meeting one day and there was a window in my peripheral vision. I swore there was a person out there waving at us, it was only a branch. It is the one symptom my neurologist said isn't POTS, but was just something in the fluid in my eye. But before I got to him I had a very thorough eye exam and my opthomologist didn't see anything. So, I still think it is POTS related.Happy Days,Amy
persephone
Hi Lauren, yep- I get visual disturbances. But in all seriousness I also see ghosts. Maybe you are too? I never quite know how to discuss these things, but I find when I'm at my illest with POTS is when I'm most 'receptive' or 'perceptive' to 'other' things. corina
i'm having that too from time to time. i saw a strange kind of movie on our television that's in our bedroom while i was sure it was off. i even checked it which made me realize that i felt very bad (think it was very low bp). i talked to my neuro about it and he told me that when i would have that again i could turn on a light and the hallucination would be gone. i've tried that when i was hallucinating again (knowing that what i saw couldn't be real while i actually saw something), and i was glad that it helped.so far it seems that i'm only hallucinating during the night. nobody knows why. maybe the tip with the light can help others???!!!corina
Jacquie802
Possibly the ghost of Christmas past?? Sorry just joking around. I do get the visual probs when I get headaches though, I'm guessing its from them. Also, when my bp is low enough i have horrible vision and it feels like the whole place is spinning.... masumeh
Hmm... this is a really interesting discussion. Of course, ppl tend to have their own beliefs about the possibility of "others", ghosts or jinns or however you might define it and conceptualize it. But, I think it's best to stick to the scientific explanation when at all plausible. I have "jiggling" in my visual disturbance, and it comes some time before a faint. It's mostly in the periphery when it's not too bad...sometimes takes over the whole field of vision. This is really medical in origin. Not enough blood flow to the eyes and related areas of the brain is probable. Another possible medical cause is psychosis, as a side effect of medication or an underlying psychological problem. Florinef (I just got off it) has the possiblity of this side effect, according to the drug's website.
MightyMouse
Or perhaps it's a blot of undigested mustard... (that's a line from "scrooge")I occasionally get the shadows moving in my peripheral vision...not often though.Nina

Dizzy Dame
Thanks guys. These disturbances happen both during the day and at night, and happen in my central vision...I'll be looking right at the disturbances sometimes. I'm going to talk to my doc about it when I see her on Wed. Whatever it is, it's a bit unnerving.

India
Are you taking beta blockers? Very rarely BB's can cause hallucinations. The father of a friend of mine who started taking high dose BB's for a heart condition used to suffer from these. Here in Hawai'i, of course, everyone would say the hallucinations are really ghosts and that the way to deal with hallucinations/ghosts is to talk to them!I've got to agree with others that I suffer from similar visual disturbances too--often the fleeting, out-of-the-corner-of-your-eye variety. But I have also had more three dimensional and persistent "hallucinations" too--my local friends (non-medicated!) describe similar things--part of the culture here, and very interesting.Aloha,India

Dizzy Dame
Hey guys,I just wanted to update on the visual disturbances. I talked with my PCP about them a few days ago and she thinks they're related to my BP, since it's been especially unstable since I started the lyme treatment. So no ghosts Just another funky POTS symptom
