MightyMouse
I just need to vent. I took a sick day this coming friday in order to have a long awaited appointment with a headache specialist at a big Philly teaching hospital... and they called and cancelled me...gave me a new appointment on a day that I can't go, and I called to cancel that one, and they've not been able to find me a new appointment. Okay, I DON'T feel bad about NOT having to fork over 450$ up front this week to pay for an uneccessary and unwanted psych eval that's mandatory to be a patient there; but I was looking forward to the possiblity to being out of pain in my head. It just sets me over the tipping point given that I'll have bone & muscle pain for my lifetime.I've been struggling with a migraine since Jan 12 and it's really chewing on my cognitive skills, my attitude, and what little energy i've got. Already took the medrol pack my neuro gave me; it took some of the intensity away, but the background pain is still there--and I'm due to get my period again this week, so it's starting to torque up again. I suppose I'll have to either go back to my neuro, who gave me only two options last time (medorl or ER)...or my pain management doc for now. Sorry for my grumpy rant; I think the steroids have been making me just a bit extra cranky.Nina hopefully now that I've spewed that out, I'll be able to sleep better. Oh, and I'm bringing my car in for service Friday...at least one of us should get better!

Jacquie802
Hi Nina,I hate when apptmts are rescheduled, esp when you really need to see the doc. It's almost like they know! Why is the eval soo much money? Does your insurance cover any of it? I hope you find some relief soon.Jacquie
MightyMouse
No, my insurance doesn't cover any of the psychological evaluation...just the medical parts. They called me today to offer me an appointment for tomorrow morning, which I can't take because I need to ask for time off in advance--at least 5 days.I'm just tired and cranky. ariella
Hi Nina,Who wouldn't be tired and cranky with a migraine lasting nearly a month?...and you've been working all this time too? Steroids can definitely add to cranky, or so my doctor has warned, so far they've just made me incredibly hyper.Wishing you relief soon.Ariellaps forking over $450 for a psych evaluation would be enough to give me a migraine for a month
corina
Hi Nina, are feeling a bit better yet? Were you able to get a new appointment? At least I hope you slept well. (allthough I agree with ariella about the $ 450. it would give me a migraine as well!!!!!) The things we do to feel better eyh!Corina
MightyMouse
Yeah, that's 450$ I don't have! It'll have to be a credit card--wish I was spending that on WINE instead of whine. I actually think that the psych eval is to rule in or out a depression or mental component of pain/headaches. I feel kind of peeved at even having to do it given my prior experience with hospital based psychologists telling me that all my problems were from depression (which I've never really had--I'm one of the most hopeful people you'll ever meet). Some of you may recall that I had a psychiatrist tell me I could learn to control my bp and hr with bio feedback and would be able to stop meds--I sent a scathing letter to the head of my team, a neurosurgeon, who had the idiot write me an apology. Then the neuro personally called to apologize. Yeah, biofeedback will fix my genetic defect. NOT. Seriously, I didn't even go there for treatment of my bp or hr...just for my spinal pain and neurological losses (numbness, pain, loss of muscular control, falling, choking, etc.).anyway...I called my regular neuro today for help. Soonest he can see me is the end of the month... boogers... if it gets worse, I'll have to cave in and go to the ER. I've had only two good ER trips out of I-don't-even-know-how-many-because-it's-too-many-to-count. One was for my double corneal abrasions, and the other was just before this past Dec when my lung collapsed. All my ER visits for migraines were just wastes of time and money. Sorry, I don't mean to sound so negative--I just don't like my options or my odds if I choose the ER. Other things are going okay in my life--work is calming down, I got some good news at grad school yesterday about an independent project I'll be doing this coming Summer, and Teri and I scheduled a vacation for April... I just want this headache to be off of my "to do" list by then Nina
Sophia3
NinaHope you get some relief from your headache.Giving a sick day notice 5 days in advance is no easy feat either!!?? Feel better.
Jacquie802
Hi Nina,Is there anyway you can set up a payment plan for the psych eval fee??Jacquie
MightyMouse
Sophia, it's going to have to be a personal day b/c I'm running really low on sick days... and personal days require a week's notice. As for payment plan, that's a no. They were very clear in my initial contact with them that the psych eval fee is due in full on the first visit, and that they accept cash (HA!!) checks, credit and debit cards. On a good note, today is just a dull ache rather than full-fledged migraine. I'm due for my period to start tomorrow, so I'm hoping that the headache doesn't kick itself back into gear. Here's to a somewhat better day Off to work I go, go, go Nina
Sophia3
NinaOk, I know personal days require notice but wasn't sure about sick days. My sarcasm doesn't transfer well to email.I hope you get relief soon.
MightyMouse
Oh Sophia...that made me laugh. Yours was not the first internet sarcasm that I failed to notice yesterday! I accidentally sent my graduate advisor a file that was completely written in Croatian...he wrote me back to say the file was in gibberish (but was kidding). He had to send me an additional email to tell me it was a joke Some days my brain matches the size of my internet mouse persona!Nina
