LisaColumbus
Hi all,I just wanted to let everyone know I was approved by Social Security! On the first try. Maybe things are finally looking up for those with our conditions. Good luck to all still going through the process!

persephone
I was pleasantly surprised when I got approved first time too. But they sent a Dr to the house who took my blood pressure and watched me (try to) climb the stairs- just seeing that was enough for the guy- there was no way they could deny my ill health then.It is good that the condition is being acknowledged and recognised. LisaColumbus
It is good that the condition is being acknowledged and recognised. It certainly would be nice to get dysautonomia's on their conditions list. So many don't have the appropriate medical documentation and it makes getting help, nearly impossible
persephone
Things are improving here. NCS is recognised on the list in the UK. More and more doctors are familiar with NCS anyway. I find now that if I tell them POTS is NCS but with an elevated HR, the penny drops! (most times--but then there are always some muppet doctors out there to make the day amusing!) cnm1
Lisa Congratulations!!!! I can't tell you how happy I am for you. Rachel is starting that process too. She has POTS, NMH, CFS & IBS and we live in Ohio too. Any tips that you can offer?Louise
LisaColumbus
I think what helped me most was the fact that I had extensive and detailed medical reports from Dr Grubb, Cleveland Clinic, a local EP doc and my family doc. I think I had most every test run known to man lol. I got copies of all of my medical records prior to filing, so I didn't have the additional wait time while SS tried to collect med reports. I was also very detailed on the fuctional abilities report when telling about my limitations. That was very hard for me. I have always been a very stoic, hard working, no complaining type of person so it was very difficult for me to tell what I can't do, I felt like a whiner while I was filling it out....but it was necessary. I also made the main focus be the arrhythmias and the hypovolemia and the symptoms caused by those. If you have any questions when you start filing, email me and I can give you some examples of how certain things were answered.
morgan617
I truly believe the more thorough the records, the better your chances. My pcp sent everything in, but I make sure he has a copy of everything anyone does. He said my chart gives him a hernia, but it got me disability, which made us both very happy. morgan
